Hyderabad April 2026 :” On the occasion of World Asthma Day, KIMS Sunshine Hospital organized an awareness walkathon under the aegis of its Department of Pulmonology. The walkathon was conducted from KIMS Sunshine Hospital, Begumpet, passing through Rasoolpura crossroads.
The event was flagged off by Dr. A.V. Gurava Reddy, Managing Director of KIMS Sunshine Hospital. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Gurava Reddy stated that asthma, which was once feared by many, can now be effectively managed due to advancements in medical science. He emphasized that modern treatment options, especially inhalers, play a crucial role in controlling asthma. He advised that with proper use of inhalers under expert medical supervision, patients can not only control asthma but also lead a healthy and normal life. He also highlighted that KIMS Sunshine Hospital has a dedicated team of expert pulmonologists providing comprehensive care.
Dr. Raghunath Reddy, Head of the Department and Interventional Pulmonologist, stated that globally around 260 million people are affected by asthma every year, leading to more than 450,000 deaths annually. In India, out of a population of 1.36 billion, approximately 34–35 million people suffer from asthma, with over 50,000 deaths reported each year. He stressed that inhalers are safe and essential for managing asthma and clarified that they do not cause harm. The walkathon aimed to create awareness and dispel misconceptions about inhaler usage.
Senior Consultant and Interventional Pulmonologist Dr. Laxman Babu said that the walkathon was conducted to spread awareness among the public on the occasion of World Asthma Day. He added that the hospital runs a Severe Asthma Clinic equipped with advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities. He also announced a special asthma care package being offered throughout the month of May at KIMS Sunshine Hospital.
Pulmonologist Dr. Kunal Waghray stated that asthma can be effectively controlled throughout life with proper treatment and regular medical supervision. Dr. Swathi Reddy added that there is no need to fear asthma, and with regular use of inhalers and appropriate treatment, patients can maintain good health.
The walkathon witnessed enthusiastic participation from doctors including Dr. K. Thanushree, Dr. Bhavya, and Dr. Ruchi, along with asthma patients leading normal lives after treatment, and nursing students.
