Gadwal Weavers Society Saree Store Inaugurated by Suma Kanakala and Jubilee Hills MLA Naveen Yadav

Hyderabad, June: Gadwal Weavers Society opened its new saree store near Peddamma Temple, Road No. 55, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. The store was formally launched by renowned television anchor Suma Kanakala and Jubilee Hills MLA Naveen Yadav, along with Ram Gopal Agarwal and Akash Agarwal.

Speaking on the occasion, Suma Kanakala Lauded the efforts of Gadwal Weavers Society in preserving India’s rich handloom heritage while supporting the livelihoods of traditional weaving communities. Established in 1986 by Sri Ram Gopal, the society has been dedicated for nearly four decades to safeguarding the renowned Gadwal weaving tradition and promoting diverse handloom crafts from across India.

Traditionally, Gadwal sarees were woven exclusively from pure cotton. Over the years, in response to evolving customer preferences, the society has successfully introduced silk-cotton Gadwal sarees and pure silk Gadwal sarees, while maintaining the authenticity and craftsmanship that define the brand. This has enabled the society to preserve the uniqueness of Gadwal sarees while offering greater variety to customers.

Addressing the gathering, Ram Gopal Agarwal stated that the society was founded with the objective of providing sustainable livelihoods and financial stability to handloom weavers during a period when the sector faced significant challenges. He emphasized that the organization remains committed to delivering high-quality handloom products at affordable prices.

Akash Agarwal highlighted the distinctive craftsmanship of Gadwal sarees, particularly the traditional interlocking technique used to seamlessly join separately woven bodies and borders. He noted that the intricate zari motifs, inspired by temples, nature, and cultural heritage, make these sarees truly unique. The fact that a single saree often requires several days or even weeks to complete reflects the immense skill and dedication of the artisans. He further added that the society offers customers direct weaver pricings.

MLA Naveen Yadav appreciated the extensive collection available at the store, which includes not only Gadwal handlooms but also celebrated weaving traditions from across India such as Kanchipuram Silk, Paithani, Narayanpet, Pochampally Ikat, Uppada, Jamdani, and Banarasi sarees. Impressed by the quality and craftsmanship, he shared that he personally purchased two sarees for his family.

Beyond promoting handloom textiles, Gadwal Weavers Society is actively encouraging sustainable and environmentally responsible. The organization also contributes to strengthening the rural economy and creating employment opportunities, particularly for women weavers, thereby fulfilling an important social responsibility while preserving India’s invaluable textile heritage.
